Wicked Game

I keep missing this year's X factor but I caught Sundays show and now I cant stop listening to this clip. Its Rebecca Ferguson, a contestant, singing Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game'. She sings it so smoothly, i could listen to her voice non stop. I haven't seen much of the other contestants but i hope she get a recording contract so I can buy her album.

Avatarts

Yum, they look like pop-tarts with blue icing. Could be easy to make, ill let you know if i give it a go. The perfect treat whilst watching Avatar on dvd.......not sure about going the extra mile with the leaves though : S

Doz online Grmr annoy u?

It annoys me a little too, especially when people misspell words. (Word check is only a right-click away!) I dont mind short-hand so much because I am guilty of taking the easier/quicker route...'U' instead of 'You'. 'R' instead of 'Are".

Grammar Blogger - Hyperbole and a Half

This guy has created his whole blog around online grammar and spelling. He is unforgiving.....but he does it in a funny way.

Purple Potatoes??

This is yesterdays dinner, meatballs and mash........ yes, purple mash. I know it looks bizarre but apparently these 'new' Purple Majesty potatoes are high in antioxidants, so they are good for you! They actually taste just like normal potatoes. I thought it was abit weird at first, they are so bright. But they taste superb, so try them. Add something colourful to your plate.

The Ambassadors

One of my housemates came down to London last month to visit. I showed him the usual sites...covent garden, oxford street. Then i took him to the National portrait Gallery to see this painting. I heard about it from an art show on C4. The blur at the bottom of the painting is a cool perspective trick. if you look at it from the right-side at an angle you can see its a skull. It was painted in 1553 by Hans Holbein the Younger. he was one of the first painters to use perspective. What a ledge, my housemate didn't appreciate it as much as me : ( Im just so cultured and artistic!

Could this be the Best interactive Ad ever??

I think it is. No matter what you type in, they have a video for it. Genius.....and yes i even got the parental advisory one, i think you can guess what i typed in.

Vampires Suck!

Yep they have finally done it. They've made a vampire spoof film. It mostly takes the piss out of Twilight. But with the mahoosive amount of coverage and tweenage fans Twilight has, who can blame them. Anything that gets big these days will be made fun of.
And every programme/film thats come out in the past 3 years seems to be about the blood suckers. Anyway the trailer looks quite funny, but you can tell most of the humour will be slapstick (which is fine if you're 5).

...then you'll love this:

"MeowMania"

Just a little bit creepy. It reminds me of the Crusha ad's, with the singing cats.

Horror on Chatroulette

Interactive Advertising via the well-known website; Chatroulette.com. Not sure what agency thought of this, but i think its brilliant. I think if you were part of the advertising for this film, it would make me want to see "The Last Exorcism" . (Although Im a chicken when it comes to horror movies) The guys who did this campaign must have had so much fun!

Cardboard Trainers

This is from an art project, done recently by a man called Jurjen Semeijn. He made trainers from the cardboard boxes they came in. I had to look twice to realise the main trainer is actual card. Looks so real. The project was called "Out of the Box”......clever.

Zakynthos 2010

Ive just returned from a beautiful holiday in Zakynthos, Greece. I went away with 5 friends and we had an amazing time. We hired a boat.......and crashed it, and got the anchor stuck between rocks (too deep to get it loose). We hired another boat, no problems with that one. Then we found some caves and went exploring, the weather and water was fantastic. On our last day we went around on quad bikes. Loved the quads, why cant everyone ride round on quads here??? But yes i am immensely tanned and sad that I am back : (

My parents surprised me with this giant Millie's cookie yesterday, for passing my uni degree. I had forgotten how nice millie's cookies are. It was delicious, I cut it like a cake shared it with everyone.

English Tea Party

We had visitors staying from Ireland at my house this week. On their last day my mum threw an English Tea Party and invited afew more friends over for them. I played classical music, courtesy of my iTunes (abit annoyed that Spotify stopped doing their 99p Day-Pass.) We had Sandwiches- Homemade scones with cream and strawberry preserve- And ofcourse tea and cupcakes- The cupcakes were delicious, a bit filling though. There were about 12 of us, including a few children. We sat in the garden with a drink afterwards. The weather was brilliant, i think we're definitely going to host a few more. Im going to have a posh tea-cup set when I get my own place.

The Railway Children

Went to the theatre last night with a few family friends to see the latest production of The Railway Children. It wasnt exactly in a theatre but in an actual train station. They had converted the former Eurostar platforms at Waterloo station into a stage. The audience were sat either side of the actual tracks with parts of the stage moving whilst the actors were doing their scenes. Ive never seen any production like that before. Its a great thing to see especially if you've watched the film, good to see a well-known film transformed into a stage production. At on point they brought a real steam onto the tracks.

Jay-Z ends the Wireless Weekend

Went to wireless again on Sunday with my friend Steph. It was the last day and the line-up was Lily Allen, Tinie Tempah, Mr. Hudson, Slash, Chase & Status (and others), ending it with a bang was the legendary Jay-Z. It was immense how many people went. And with over 50,000 people I randomly bump into one of my coursemates. At one point he said 'lets turn this night into Carnival'. The Jigga man played all of his latests and classic tracks. Alicia Keys came out and surprised the audience with Empire of the State. And Mr. Hudson joined him for Forever Young. But he did the track I was waiting for last...Encore, I love that song. Wireless was mad, but im definitely going to go next year.

Wireless festival

Yesterday I went to the Wireless festival in Hyde Park. It was amazing. I saw The Gossip, Ting Tings and Pink. Pink was on last and her performance was the best. She dropped out of a toy box (that was suspended by a crane over the audience)! Then Zorbed over the crowd..and right over my head. It was wicked. She said 'now i know how a hamster feels'. I took my friend Jem as its her birthday soon, she loves Pink, so i was buzzing as it was the first time she saw her live. Wicked day. I actually felt like i was at a festival......i now want to go camping : (

The Incurable Optimist

This is a really touching video about a man called Patrick who developed motor neurone disease (MND). Which means he is gradually losing the ability to walk, talk, eat and breathe. He is determined to use what’s left of his life and his diminishing artistic skill to encourage others to do something optimistic every day. MND may be incurable but he is an incurable optimist. "I know that through optimism we will find the cure to MND." I really hope he gets all 100 portraits done. Check out his website- PatrickTheIncurableOptimist

Found this at TPH (uni) thought it looked a little like me when i was younger. Tried convincing housemates my mum had put me in for modelling casts when i was younger. They didn't believe it was me : (

Swedish Midsummers

Yesterday i went to Natalie and Steph's Swedish midsummers BBQ party. We made halo's out of leaves and flowers, had some delicious food and chilled out in the garden. The party was also a bit of a housewarming, because they have just moved into their new apartment. Everyone stayed up drinking and eating till 2 in the morning. It was cool because Tom Othick (creative partner) was in London for New Blood, and Ruby, another coursemate, so it felt like a creative advertisers reunion. The hightlight of the night...i got to try traditional Swedish sandwich cake, Natalie has been going on about this cake since i met her; "you have to try it!" But she never made it when we lived together. Its really nice, a weird combination of ingredients, but it is really tasty. Ill hopefully get to try it again as she only lives 10mins away.

Greyson Chance 2

Ive already written a post about this talented gangster, but he's now writing his own songs and they sound ear-meltingly beautiful. So here is the one to watch G-G-Greyson.

LDN

Im back home now, in my favourite city. I didn't realise how grand it is till i went on the underground. I felt like a foreigner, even though i have lived here all my life. I went to visit my old flatmate Natalie in her new apartment, we played Wii and her and Steph cooked me a delicious dinner. The apartment is beautiful, it just makes me want to move out now. Living back with the folks is going to drag like the final series of Big Brother.

Sex and the City 2

Yes had a very girly night watching this at with my housemate Meglaaaa, (Megan) at the cinema. Then came home to some drinks and girls night with Steph at ours. I thought the film was good. It was so funny. Most of my mates (girls) have said its not as good as the first. But i think it is. Anyway its perfect for a chick-flick. Ild watch it again.

Goodbye Engine Shed

Last night was the very last Engine Shed for all the 3rd years. The Engine Shed is Lincoln uni's Student Union club. They have wicked nights every Wednesday and Saturday. It was so packed last night. The DJ paused the music and told everyone to pose for a massive photograph, (not that you'ld be able to make anyone out, there were so many people). Good night, and a good way to end my Uni nights out. But i will be in Lincoln till the end of June, so it wont be the last time I go out.

A Bit Rude

An advert my mum pointed out, the last time i was in London. I still haven't looked up what its for.....kind of scared to.

Greyson Chance

This is Greyson Chance. A 13 year old who has posted his own version of Lady Gaga's Paparazzi. I think its beautiful, might even be better than the Gaga's (and im a big fan of the Lady!) I hope he makes it.....good at piano too!

Free meal at the Mill

Yesterday I went for a delicious meal with my flatmate Luke. It was a free meal, because he had won a £20 voucher at The Mill lodge, from a raffle for his course (i think he cheated). We had no idea where it was, so we used my iphone's sat-nav. We walked about half an hour. I had no idea where we were, but he's actually from lincolnshire and had no clue! So we had to call the place because we had only typed in the postcode not the address. Here he is waiting for our dinner..We didnt want to spend more than the £20 and we were so full, so when the waiter asked if we wanted dessert, luke said "NO!......can we just have the cheque please!" Haha...he must have looked like a cheap date.

1 Jun 2010

Bored?

I thought I would be really bored- uni has finished and i have absolutely nothing to do...or wake-up for (besides New Blood Showcase) but with all 8 of my housemates, who have now all finished, we are just enjoying our final month in the house. We watch films together. Occasional have a meal together. Invent some insanely stupid game. And of course food fights.....the other day it was toast. Messy!

26 May 2010

I'll Be There

I will be at the 2010 New Blood showcase in London. Tom and I have been invited to show our work from the past year. I cant wait, it is at a very hectic time for me but i will be there. Its a 4 day event organised by D&AD for newcomers of the industry to showcase their work and hopefully get spotted by any creative. It starts on the 25th of June and its at the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, London. Come for a glance at mine and other creative's work. Its not just for advertising, anyone in the creative industry can showcase their work.

Today I handed in the very last bit of work on my course. How to become an International Spy

This was a short stop-motion animation i made in my 1st year at university. Im so proud of it, although i do look at it now and think "wtf". I remember everyone else in my year doing nice videos about dogs and beaches.....and i choose to put a murderous spy in mine, haha. I had to draw 140 images to make this film. Hard work payed off. The name's Bond.....

Elaine on Email

I was cleaning up my Hotmail emails today, just going trough them and deleting the very old ones. I came across the very first email my mum had sent me.....and yes i burst out laughing. I remember when my mum first asked me for my email address, i told her it and then said @hotmail.com.....SHE WROTE- " at hotmail.com" LOL "mum its the sign "@" and there are no spaces in emails address' or websites. Anyway here's the email:

I think i've sent an email to thwe wrong address. Hola nadine me llamo elaine. Encantada. I'm only on lesson three so progress is slow. Any luck with a job yet you are going to need one soon. Get your Groove On!

The Streets are back in my Life

My housemate Natalie, recently (while having a Wii Mario Kart sesh) in her room put The Streets on her Spotify. I hadnt listened to them in ages. I saw them live last year at V Festival, they were incredible. They're old albums are ALOT better than their new ones. I will now be blasting Streets out of my sub-woofer!

Ed-it-ing

Tom and I are in the computer room editing our film. Im really happy with it now, its horrible watching yourself on camera though. Some scenes are so funny. We have a clip of one of my housemates eating an apple....it pans to me and i say "eating an apple without washing it" On the first take however, my housemate decided to shout "Im eating a facking apple without even facking washing it!" Which set me off laughing. I managed to control myself by the 18th take.

Cool as Ice

I have no idea where this image came from, or what it was used for.....possibly an ad. I would use it as an ad for heartburn or some similar product, maybe central heating. But i think the image is cool.......as ice

Yves Saint Laurent-L'Homme

I used to constantly watch this ad on Youtube when it was first aired in 2008. I love the song, Nicolas Atchine - Everything Can Go. The ad just looks so sophisticated and cleanly filmed. Ive looked for the song everywhere to download/buy but i dont think the full track has been released yet. The man in it is Olivier Martinez (french model/actor), Kylie Minogue's ex i believe. Beautiful, I hope i get to produce a mesmerizing perfume ad, like this, one day.

STRESS

Last few days before hand-in. Losing sleep is not the best for me.....thank god for Red Bull and Relentless. Ill be an energetic grouch monster. Editing mine and Tom's self promo....well trying to anyway. Its not going well, bad quality, not the right format, different screen sizes, sound issues.....i could go on. Im just keeping the feeling we got from our 1st assessment in mind. We will do it......eventually.

I love you Spotify!

I am a HUGE music fan. I cannot go a day without listening to any type of music. I have an iPod, iTunes, iPhone, Spotify, Last FM and various radio station/music apps. So i was so happy today when i opened up Spotify, to find they had taken all of the tracks on my Mac and simply put them onto my very own Spotify playlist. Im honestly not advertising for them, but now i can have all of my music without the ads (irony...as im in advertising) All of my tracks are on one application. Me=HAPPY

Charlie Bit Me

Ouch Charlie!....Gross i know. Cut my finger as i was doing the washing up. My thoughtful flatmate Natalie decided not to help but instead run and get her camera. I went to our doctors next door, tried to explain i just needed bandaging, yet i had to wait an hour to be seen by a doctor- who diagnosed.."Its a deep cut, you'll have to wait to see the nurse for a bandage". Thanks NHS! Now i have a mammoth sized bandage around my index finger and look like i need to be placed in the 'special' class.

The Boat that Rocked

Amazing film. Just watched it with housemates, such a good choice! If i had to choose a different era to live in, it would have to be the 60's. Music then was legendary. Updating my ipod now!

Say What!

This block is Mental!

So im sitting with Tom in our creative studio. Trying to think of ideas for our Self Promo (due-in 3 weeks!) So far we have thought of something around the idea that are very 'risque' with all of our work, so we have have come up with Othick&Palmer....the Risktakers, or Riskology (haha). We need to make a short film for Justin Tagg, and so far....no good ideas have slapped us in the face. We're meeting Justin today, so hopefully he can give us a nudge in the right direction.

Hard Candy

Just watched the film Hard Candy again. Saw it at the cinema and thought it was amazing. But now ive really noticed the art direction. I think its been filmed beautifully. Here is the synopsis: For three weeks, 14-year-old Hayley Stark has been chatting on-line with 'Lensmaster319', a 32-year old fashion photographer, named Jeff. The two agree to meet at a coffee shop called Nighthawks. They hit it off, despite the massive age difference. Hayley appears to flirt with Jeff, and Jeff generally restrains himself, even admitting that he must wait 4-years until he can be with her. But his reservations are apparently not enough to decline when Hayley all but invites herself over to his house. Once at the house, manipulation becomes the name of the game, and the pedophile seems to be on the non-traditional side of it.

Such a good film i recommend it.

I love thee...

This advert for Levi's is beautiful. Its quite old now, 2005, but I think it's my favourite ad. Its basically mixing youth culture with Shakespeare. They are quoting a scene from A Mid Summer Nights Dream. My favourite part is when the guy says "that they shall see, im not afraid". Perfect ad for me....and i want a pair of Levi's now!

...plus the guy is quite fit.

Crisp Sandwich??

Happy Easter. Im back home in London. Only down for afew days, but have already met up with afew friends for a girly night-in. Dont worry ive still got advertising on the brain. Ive been looking at the new Walkers Sandwich campaign. I didnt like it at first, but the idea is actually very clever....ive even been on the website! Anyway back to eating lots of chocolate. Later Gater!

30 Mar 2010

Yuuuummmmm

Doesn't this advert look delicious! Its for an ice cream called Kapiti. Yummy.

Spring Break 2010

No not as glamorous, just the easter holidays. I have 2 weeks off from uni, and i am going to enjoy them. It will be the last time I get to do.......nothing. I thought about going back home to London, but the thought of changing trains and packing/unpacking put me off. And as most of my housemates are staying for the holidays, we might as well carry on. Two week party anyone??? I think yes!

Nan, is that a sausage!

This weekend I went to a small town near Lincoln called Alford. I went with afew of my housemates because it was Megan's dad's birthday. We played some cool games her gran got us playing. Consequences (very funny) and The Blanket Game, where you pass random objects from around the house under a blanket in a circle. You then have to, without looking, guess what they are. One was a soggy dog toy, a rubber duck...and a raw sausage! Thanks Megan's nan....the look on peoples faces (and mine) when the sausage got passed around was priceless. She knew what she was doing!........such a good weekend.

Can you pass the Ketchup?

Just a pic of the, personally made, Tomato award I won from the advertising legend that is Alex Taylor. I had a day workshop with her and it was amazing. It made me want to get into Advertising right now! But no....have to wait till I graduate. I won the award for a homework brief she set us, to re-art direct an old ad for the Ford Chevrolet Lumina. Tom has his own Copywriting workshop next week. I hope it goes as well.

My flatmate Natalie came 1st place, winning her own tomato. Im glad she won.......she did spend more time on hers!

-N.

You say Tomato!.....

Last week I had my own workshop with the advertising legend Alex Taylor. She came for a day, all the way from Saatchi & Saatchi, to give the Art Directors on our course a workshop. It was Fantastic. I learn so much! She showed us afew of her own winning projects and told us about her journey, from student to Head of Art. She is amazing, a real role model, especially to us female Directors. Alex has come far in her life and i hope to follow in her footsteps.
Cheesy part over. She actually loved one of my ads (from a small homework brief she gave us for the day). Alex turned it into a competition, rewarding me a 2nd place Tomato award. I am so pleased with it and my work. I cant believe I won!!
The last words Ms. Taylor told us, will stick with me..."It's the best job in the world."

Thankyou Alex! Please come again.

Give us a job Rory!

We had a very interesting lecture today with Advertising legend Rory Sutherland. He is the vice chairman of Ogilvy and had alot to say! He spoke to us about Obliquity in our work......his favourite word, and gave us a whole list of cool books to read. I will be buying them! Rory told us to "Consider the most intangible solution first." He is actually a really funny nice guy, he joked about being mistaken for his doppelgänger (a famous cyclist with the same name), and even invited us follow him on twitter...twit-twoo.

But most importantly he left us with the message "Be Proud Of What You Do". Tom and I will take this mantra with us to our next crit, we WILL be proud of what we do!
Thank you Rory!

Wow

Peugeot's new ad shows you the evolution of the car. I think the ad is brilliant. Quite afew car adverts recently have used the Transformers effect, I think it's cool this one is one of my favourites along with the dancing car for the Citroen C4. Great song choice too.

Quelqu'un M'a Dit

I found this song when watching the film 500 Days of Summer, the film wasn't that great but I think the song is beautiful. The title translates as- "Someone Said Me". I dont understand what else she says, I wish I could speak French, Tom told me our university gave FREE French lessons.....yes i was excited....but no, turns out young Thomas was not paying attention! Anyway enjoy the song as I have had it on repeat since I found it.....Au Revoir!

Chris Davy

This is by photographer, Christopher Davy. I stumbled across this image last year when one of my tutor's- Tracey asked us all to find a new photographer we admired. I found Chris Davy. This photo is my favourite by him. It's a great shot, I love how the water droplets nicely separate the marketing people from the contrasting people outside in the rain. I think black & white photographs tell more of a story to those in colour. I think I might actually get this photo framed.....it would go nicely in my room, might even inspire me to take great photo's like this one.

Creatives love Mac's

I found this image randomly whilst doing research. I REALLY like it. The idea is great and the actual visual is very well done. It is of two creatives Manfred Kruger and Juliana Abislaimán, Me and Tom have to make a short film about ourselves as creatives and I think something like this would look very cool. I was thinking of a weird stop-motion or animation film. But its early days yet.
